We’re excited to announce that David Lee, one of our virtual kinesiologists, will become our full-fledged Clinical Exercise Physiologist in mid-June.

“I was ecstatic when I discovered I got the job. When I began working with Nisga’a Valley Health Authority (NVHA), the Nass Valley community took me in with open arms. I look forward to continuing the work I’m doing and helping patients improve their well-being,” said David.

Between 2020 and April 2024, David completed a Kinesiology Degree at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. In the program, he took a blend of physiology, active health, psychology and sociology courses.

In 2023, he worked as a student kinesiologist in collaboration with NVHA. Under the leadership and guidance of health professionals, he assessed patients’ needs, created exercise plans tailored to their lifestyles, and helped them reach their fitness goals.

“Dr. Chan has been a great mentor to me, and I look forward to applying what she has taught me into the kinesiology role,” said David.

In June, he’ll move to the valley to start his new position; he’ll be based out of Gitlaxt’aamiks Health Centre and will work regularly at the three other health centres.

“I’m looking forward to living and working in Nisga’a as I’ll soon be seeing most of my patients in-person. I can show patients how to perform exercises more effectively when I’m by their side,” said David.

When he starts his new role, he’ll provide similar services to the communities, including youth and elders, and develop and run health and fitness programs.

“I really want to set up the foundation of these programs in a positive and effective way,” said David.

Another task of his will be to mentor students who complete kinesiology internships with NVHA.

“I’d like there to be a steady stream of student kinesiologists and kinesiology graduates who come into rural communities to work,” said David.

To celebrate his recent accomplishments, David plans to enjoy the outdoors being physically active surrounded by nature.
