Nisga’a Valley Health Authority (NVHA) employee Penny Morven can perform countless health care tasks.

Penny grew up in Prince George. She spent a lot of her childhood camping and tobogganing.

Penny realized she’d be a great health care worker when she was in school.

“I was amazing at taking care of injured or sick relatives. For example, my dad worked at a sawmill and when he arrived home with a cut, I always treated it successfully,” said Penny.

Penny began working with NVHA 18 years ago and has taken on many health care roles since then. She was a Dental Assistant for seven of those years.

“I learned how to use different dental instruments, make dentures, and create the gel that is used to cement crowns,” said Penny.

She was also a Receptionist and Administrative Assistant for NVHA. In both roles, she often filed prepared reports, answered patients’ questions, helped organize meetings and proofread documents.

Four years ago, Penny began her current Housekeeper role. She cleans staff housing as well as offices, equipment, patient rooms, hallways, and public areas in the health centres.

“I like the job because it keeps me active and allows me to socialize a lot,” said Penny.

Each day, NVHA staff and patients thank Penny for keeping the health centres immaculately clean.

“When I receive those compliments, they always brighten my day,” said Penny.

Penny has lots of hobbies. She likes spending time with her kids and watching movies. She plans to watch Salt Path, a popular drama movie, soon.

She is also a talented decorator. Every December, she does an incredible job decorating Christmas trees and the waiting area in the health centres.
